New social media from TikTok "Artifact" in Text Form

The founding duo of Instagram, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, revealed that they are developing a new social media (social media) called "Artifact". Systrom and Krieger had previously clashed with Facebook and both chose to resign from Meta (Facebook's parent) in 2018. The artifact itself is a text-based application that relies on machine learning. The textbase referred to here is a collection of news articles that will be presented by the system. If the article is considered interesting, users can discuss the topic with relatives/friends. To make it easier to describe the new social media, you can imagine the TikTok application, but the form is text-based.

Users can click on articles that catch their attention, then the Artifact system will serve up articles with similar topics in the future. In short, this system works similarly to when a user scrolls through videos on TikTok's "For You" page. The artifact itself will display several popular articles that have been selected/curated from several publishers. From well-known publishers, such as mainstream media, to small-scale publishers that feature more specific article topics. Another feature that will be offered is that users can control the comments column, view feeds that contain uploads and comments from accounts they follow, to direct messages (DMs) to hold discussions with friends privately. Artifact, which stands for articles (articles), facts (facts), and artificial intelligence (AI / artificial intelligence), is currently opening registration for those who want to try it first. Interested people can now register through the official Artifact website, as compiled by KompasTekno from Platformer, Thursday (2/2/2023). The registration is intended for users who want to know the latest info on Artifact development.

For now, the application has only been rolled out in beta. This means that it has not yet been released officially to the public and is still in the trial phase. The application will be available for all iOS and Android users. Systrom ensures that the application he makes will be responsible for providing high-quality articles and information. Therefore, he seeks to recruit publishers who have the quality and standards of news editors. Users who upload deviant articles or information will also be deleted by the system. Not only that, the potential of artificial intelligence, according to Systrom, is also very promising in the future. That is the reason Artifact also relies on AI to deliver news to users. “I think machine learning is the coolest thing that can't be avoided at the moment. Not because it seems modern, but when the system knows you like a certain topic, the system will present it to you," said Systrom. The two Instagram founders also revealed the business model they applied. They plan to implement a profit-sharing system with publishers. If this business grows, it can help users find new publishers and encourage them to subscribe.
